Perry and Cindy Kerson fell in love with this property the moment they set foot on it. The front Merlot vineyard was already in but the grapes were minimally managed and so had to be removed and replanted (in 2019). What yield could be gotten made FANTASTIC JAM! The back vineyard was newly planted in 2019, in a level field surrounded on 2 sides by the Dry Creek. It was a prune orchard into the 60s. Both vineyards were grafted in 2020 (hence the name). The vineyard kept the Kersons sane and busy during the 2020 pandemic, racial riots, and outrageous political climate.
The property is about 200 ft up on Mt. Veeder - but oddly sits within the Yountville AVA. This is because Mt. Veeder AVA is on the north and west sides of the Dry Creek and stops at 400 ft. So, since Vineyard2020 sits on the south/eastern edge of the creek and is at only 200 ft, we end up at the very western edge of Yountville AVA. Likely our wines (when we ever get to producing them) will taste of a little of both. Go figure!
Ricardo Delgado and his team planted in 2019, and grafted in 2020. Daniel Trejo ihas been the vineyard manager. since 2021.
Our first vintage was 2022. There was about 70L/23gal. The wine was stored in a variable-level air tight lidded stainless tank with oak staves, While it started off great, Cindy may have miscalculated the SO2 levels and the wine went south.
Shattering occurred in ‘23. This is when the flowers don’t all turn into grapes , leaving the bunches unfilled. This is the first year we sprayed with BluVite - a nutrient blend for the soil’s microbiome. The baseline testing showed some deficits in nutrients, and a very healthy soil biome. We fertilized with Yara 15-15-15 in May and netted at the end of July.
